Course Overview

This 2-hour course will allow participants to gain knowledge of stroke recovery mechanisms and current advances in neuromodulation, understand patient candidacy for paired VNS therapy, and develop practical skills in applying neuroplasticity principles to treatment and home program planning for individuals with upper-limb deficits after stroke. The interactive format combines lecture, case examples, and group discussions to enhance engagement and learning.

The live class is intended for medical professionals (e.g. OT/OTA, PT/PTA, Physicians, etc.) directly related to the neuro recovery of a patient or client. To participate in this course and receive a certificate, the participant must be a licensed, treating clinician. Following successful completion of the course and a ≥ 80% score on the quiz, learners will receive a certificate.

Resources will be provided for you to take back to your practice to help you deliver salient, task-based therapy to all of your neuro patients.

  • Identify neuroplasticity principles and their application in upper-limb stroke rehabilitation.

  • Recognize strategies for designing treatment sessions by analyzing patient impairments and grading tasks to promote functional ADL/IADL independence.

  • Recall effective methods for educating and training patients with upper-limb impairment post-stroke in home programs to continue recovery outside of the clinic.

  • List key clinical factors used to determine whether patients with a history of ischemic stroke and upper-limb impairment are candidates for Paired VNS therapy.

Amneet Gill

OTR/L, CLT

Amneet is a Therapy Development Specialist with Vivistim and an occupational therapist by background. She has worked in acute care specializing in burn rehabilitation, as well as in inpatient rehabilitation with an emphasis on traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and stroke recovery. Amneet is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT), supporting patients with lymphedema management. She also spent three years as a clinical liaison for a newly founded inpatient rehabilitation hospital, where she advocated for patients’ access to rehabilitation services and helped build strong community partnerships. She now collaborates with multidisciplinary providers and rehabilitation teams to support patient identification, clinical outcomes, and integration of Vivistim, an advanced upper-extremity stroke recovery therapy.
