Course Overview

This AOTA-approved continuing education class reviews efficacious, evidence-based strategies that drive neuroplastic change and promote improved upper limb functional recovery after stroke. Participants will explore the latest advances in vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) paired with rehabilitation therapy, alongside a comprehensive review of multiple interventions supported by a recent systematic review of upper extremity rehabilitation techniques.

Learners will be introduced to Paired VNS Therapy for chronic stroke survivors with upper limb deficits and outline its application in stroke rehabilitation. In addition, learners will explore how to design effective therapy sessions by selecting functional, goal-directed activities and applying task-grading strategies to enhance engagement and outcomes.

The online class is intended for medical professionals (e.g. OT/OTA, PT/PTA, Physicians, etc.) directly related to the rehabilitation of a patient or client. To participate in this CEU and receive credit, the participant must be a licensed, treating clinician. Completion of this course will reward the participant with .15 CEUs or 1.5 contact hours, following completion of the presentation and a ≥80% score on the quiz. You will have 90 days to complete this course.

Jazmin graduated from the University of Florida in 2013 with her Masters in Occupational Therapy. For the last 2 years she has worked with patients that have completed their Paired VNS therapy protocol. During the course of her career, she has worked with stroke patients during their continuum of care; from acute care, skilled nursing, home health and most recently outpatient rehabilitation.
